The 2024 NFL season hasn’t even started, yet it already seems like it could be quite complicated for the Minnesota Vikings.
J.J. McCarthy will miss the entire season, and there are doubts about Sam Darnold’s ability to replace Kirk Cousins.
They have more than enough playmakers on offense and a quarterback-friendly system, yet they lost some key contributors on the defensive side of the field.
That’s why, despite his solid record in charge of the team, NFL analyst Charlie Walters believes there’s a chance that the Vikings will fire HC Kevin O’Connell if things head south this season (via The Purple Persuasion).
With that in mind, he also thinks they could be in line to hire Bill Belichick to be their next head coach.
In @Charley_Walters latest piece, he states that “next year (2025) will be a pivotal season for the @Vikings.”
He continues with saying that “the Vikings could be a sleeper team for Bill Belichick, despite his age (72)”.

Despite being 72 years old, Belichick could still be a hot and sought-after commodity in the next head coaching cycle.
Then again, that might not make sense for a team like the Vikings.
Belichick hasn’t been very good at either evaluating or developing quarterbacks, with all the guys he chose besides Tom Brady being subpar.
They need someone who can take McCarthy to a whole new level, and Belichick’s failure with Mac Jones could be a huge red flag.
On top of that, he’s only expected to coach for a couple of years, so it wouldn’t make sense to go with a hiring process all over again so soon.
If they want someone with a similar approach and who focuses on defense, it would make more sense for them to promote Brian Flores.
