After officially granting star running back Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade, the Indianapolis Colts put a self-imposed deadline on when a deal would need to be done, which recently came and went, with nothing coming to fruition with another team.

All signs pointed to the Colts and Miami Dolphins potentially making a trade, with Tua Tagovailoa and company desperately looking to upgrade the running back position in order to take the pressure off their young quarterback.

Although there were reports of the two sides talking about a potential deal to send Taylor to Miami, it just didn’t happen fast enough, which has left the star running back in limbo ahead of the 2023 NFL season.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers were interested in making a deal with the Colts and were willing to make Taylor one of the highest-paid backs in the league.

I’m told both the #Dolphins and #Packers were both willing to give RB Jonathan Taylor a contract that placed him among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL entering this season, per source.

The Packers showing interest in Taylor is an interesting development, especially since they already have a star running back in the form of Aaron Jones, who will likely be leaned on heavily this season with Aaron Rodgers now with the New York Jets.

As for the Dolphins, it’s no surprise that the team would be willing to pay for Taylor, as he’d be the ideal addition in Miami that would make their offense arguably the best in the league, if not incredibly close to that distinction in 2023.

It’ll be interesting to see if trade talk sparks up again after this development.
