The Washington Nationals front office does not seem to get the respect they deserve.
Even though the players win the games on the field, the front office decides what players to acquire and put out there.
The Nationals have one of the best GMs in baseball in Mike Rizzo.
He was the architect behind their 2019 championship, and now he is hoping to bring them back to relevancy.
The Nationals have had a surprisingly good season this year.
Before the season, many people thought they would contend for being the worst team in the league.
Instead, they have a record of 65-80 which is only 1.5 games behind the New York Mets.
The Nationals decided to give Rizzo a multi-year extension to remain their President of Baseball Operations and GM.
He will continue his long tenure as a member of the Nationals.
According to Chelsea Janes, only Brian Cashman and John Mozeliak have led their respective baseball ops departments longer.
Always feels worth repeating that only Brian Cashman and John Mozeliak have led their respective baseball ops departments longer than Mike Rizzo has led the Nationals.

One thing all of those men have in common is that they have won championships.
Many teams would jump on the chance to hire Rizzo if he became available.
That is why the Nationals felt it was important to lock him up to a long-term deal.
It should surprise no one if the Nationals are back competing in the coming years.
They have a nice core of young players and a few top prospects who are on the cusp of being called up.
Rizzo has done a great job in Washington and he will be there for the long haul.
