These days, one of the most valuable commodities at the trade deadline is starting pitching.

Pitching of any kind always seems to be at a premium this time of year, and teams will do anything and everything to get the pitching they need and gear up for a late-season run.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, there are still several teams that are in the market for some starters.

Morosi lists the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves as teams that are still in the mix for starting pitching help.

Trade Deadline update:

A substantial number of teams remain involved in the market for starting pitching.

Sources say buyers include LAD, BAL, HOU, SFG, TBR, ARI, CIN, MIA, PHI, ATL.

This explains why sellers — like the Tigers — have maintained high prices. @MLBNetwork

Morosi also explained that this is likely the reason why sellers such as the Detroit Tigers have kept their prices high for starting pitchers.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox are two examples of teams who sold high on their rental starters and got back solid returns.

The White Sox got a solid haul from the Los Angeles Angels for Lucas Giolito, and the Cardinals brought back some key pitching prospects from both the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Tigers in particular have some interesting pieces to sell.

Both Michael Lorenzen and Eduardo Rodriguez are on the market.

Though Rodriguez’s contract is for five years, he has an opt-out clause and is expected to exercise it to join Lorenzen in free agency.

So naturally, the prices are going to be high.

We’ll have to see what teams offer for the remaining starters on the market.
