With a 2-6 record after their first eight games of the 2023 NFL season, the New England Patriots appear to be on track to miss the playoffs for the third time in the last four years.
New England’s lack of success in the last few seasons would suggest that some major changes need to be made by the franchise moving forward.
Some of these changes for the Patriots could be happening sooner rather than later with this season’s trade deadline on Tuesday.
As for what New England might be planning to do before this year’s trade deadline, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently revealed some info related to that (via NBC Sports Boston on Twitter).
“They’ve had [some talks] on Josh Uche already with another couple teams. They’ve gotten calls on Kyle Dugger.”

Breer also mentioned how Uche not playing on Sunday due to an injury could complicate any hopes the Patriots had of moving him before the trade deadline.
And then on Dugger, he brought up the point that if New England isn’t going to re-sign him after the 2023 season when his contract is up, then it might be worth trying to trade him before Tuesday’s deadline.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, a number of the players they might have been able to send elsewhere before Tuesday’s trade deadline have suffered significant injuries during the last few weeks.
So not only is New England unable to trade these guys to acquire more draft capital, but they can’t even currently use them to help their own team.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Patriots made a deal or two before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but it would likely be done with them playing the role of a seller and not a buyer.
