Heading into this year’s NFL Draft, there are several quarterback prospects that have the potential to be among the first players to come off the board.

However, just because a young passer is selected in the draft with a high pick, it doesn’t automatically mean they are going to develop into one of the league’s best signal-callers.

No truer examples of this can be found than what has happened to the quarterbacks who were selected in the 2021 and 2022 drafts.

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov recently pointed out on Twitter that almost none of the young signal-callers who were drafted in 2021 or 2022 have really done much during their time in the NFL so far.

The top QBs drafted in 2021 and 2022 and where they are now…

2022 NFL Draft:
– Kenny Pickett: Traded
– Desmond Ridder: Traded
– Malik Willis: Backup
– Matt Corral: In the UFL
– Bailey Zappe: Previously cut, now backup.
– Sam Howell: Traded

Former No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars is a starter next year, and the same is true for the final pick in the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy.

Yet other members of this group like Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones have all seen their careers in the NFL head in the wrong direction.

It just goes to show how incredibly difficult it is to find a franchise quarterback in the NFL Draft these days.

Some teams just think if they select a young passing prospect with one of the first 10 picks in a draft, then that guy has a good chance of developing into a longtime starter.

When the truth is that there are just a lot of factors that contribute to how successful a young quarterback can be in the league.

Will the 2024 class of rookie quarterbacks be one that actually experiences a bunch of success, unlike the classes from 2021 and 2022?
