The Golden State Warriors made one of the most significant moves of the offseason, trading Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards to get Chris Paul.
On the surface, this move made no sense, as Paul’s methodical style of play is the opposite of Steve Kerr’s rather chaotic full-motion offense, not to mention the fact that they already had Stephen Curry out there.
The safest assumption was that Paul would have to come off the bench for this to work out, but even coach Kerr didn’t rule out the possibility of having him right next to Curry in the starting lineup.
Now, Shams Charania of The Athletic reveals that Paul is willing to let the talks and practice they have during training camp determine whether it’s better for him and the team to have him starting or coming off the bench (via Stadium).

Truth be told, it’s hard to envision any scenario in which having him in the starting lineup is better.
For starters, that would move Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, or Kevon Looney to the bench, with Looney and Wiggins looking like the likeliest candidates.
Needless to say, that would hurt their size, not to mention there could be a surplus of ball-handlers.
Also, having Paul with the second unit would do wonders for youngsters like Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga.
They would have one of the best benches in the league, and Paul could stay fresher for the postseason, which has been a major issue throughout the course of his career.
