The Los Angeles Chargers had high hopes for this season, but it is already off to a poor start.

They blew a golden opportunity to knock off a potential contender in Week 1 when they lost a close one at home to the Miami Dolphins, 36-34, on Sunday.

Even worse, running back Austin Ekeler sustained an ankle injury, and per Adam Schefter, he missed a second straight day of practice on Thursday as a result.

Schefter said, via NFL on ESPN, this is “not an encouraging sign for his availability this upcoming weekend.”

The Chargers will take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, and while one may think they could manage a win even without Ekeler, the reality is that Ekeler is a major part of their offensive attack.

On Sunday, he ran for 117 yards and a touchdown while adding four receptions and 47 yards in the air, and he has been the team’s most productive skill player for the last couple of years.

In 2022, Ekeler had 915 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground plus 722 yards and five touchdowns in the air, making it the second straight season he led the NFL in total rushing and receiving touchdowns.

Right now, it is looking like the same old story for the Bolts and their fans: high expectations at the start of a season going up in smoke due to injuries and flat-out bad luck.

Some fans, as they did following the team’s collapse in last season’s playoff game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, are already calling for head coach Brandon Staley to be fired.
