The San Francisco 49ers, regardless of what is happening with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, are one of the best teams on paper in the entire NFL.
Over the past half-decade, they have essentially dominated the NFC, making it to multiple Super Bowls.
One of their focal points offensively is reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey.
Even though the running back has been dealing with a calf injury, he is close to returning, according to insider Nick Wagoner.
“Christian McCaffrey did an extensive workout on the side field during today’s practice. Appears to be getting close to a return to practice,” Wagoner tweeted.

The 49ers absolutely need a healthy McCaffrey in the backfield if they are to finally win another Super Bowl.
The two-time All-Pro is arguably the best running back in the NFL.
He has recorded four career 1,000-yard rushing seasons and multiple 2,000-yard scrimmage seasons.
Just 28 years old, the former Carolina Panthers star is building himself a Hall of Fame portfolio and has plenty left in the tank.
For this current 49ers roster, he is the straw that stirs the drink, which is remarkable considering all the big names that are part of Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
If McCaffrey is healthy and operating behind this San Francisco offensive line, he is maybe the toughest offensive player in the NFL to stop.
Once he fully returns to practice, 49ers fans can breathe a big sigh of relief.
