The Kansas City Chiefs have been put in a tough spot by star Chris Jones.

He’s by far their most talented and impactful defensive player, and as such, he knows he has all the leverage for his new contract.

There have been multiple rumors about Jones potentially holding out if he doesn’t get a new deal, with HC Andy Reid even admitting that he doesn’t know what’s going to happen.

With that in mind, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reveals that Jones is reportedly looking to get a deal worth $30 million per year (via Dov Kleiman).

Truth be told, the Chiefs would be wise to lock him up at all costs, considering they’ve spent most of their money on offensive-minded players, and they have more than enough cash to spare and spread around all other positions.

They won’t find another player of Jones’ caliber with the season just around the corner, and even if they do, chances are they’d have to spend some big bucks to get him on the field.

Jones is one of the best players at his position, and holding out has now become a usual negotiation tactic between star players and their respective teams.

The Chiefs figure to be the team to beat in the league next season again, and they’ll continue to be so for as long as they’re still this offensive juggernaut.

Nevertheless, even the Chiefs need a solid defense to get the job done in this league, and they may have no choice but to meet Jones’ steep demands.
