Everything seemed to be going the way of the Boston Celtics, as their path to winning the NBA’s Eastern Conference kept getting clearer and clearer with each passing week following injuries to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, and other big rivals in the East.

The injury bug finally bit the Celtics and muddied their path in Game 4 against the Miami Heat when star center Kristaps Porzingis went down with a calf injury, and one insider has now revealed how long Porzingis might be out.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania said that Porzingis has a right soleus strain, and said: “I’m told this is going to be treated like a week to week injury, could be 1-2 weeks for Kristaps Porzingis, could be even longer than that based on his rehab.”

That’s not great news for the Celtics, who are relatively thin in terms of depth at the center spot.

Reports have said this is a fairly similar injury to the one plaguing Giannis, who has yet to appear in the postseason after going down with a few games left in the regular season with a calf strain.

Veteran Al Horford will be seeing extended minutes in Porzingis’ absence, and the Celtics might also need to rely on guys like Xavier Tillman and Luke Kornet to eat up some minutes at the five.

Horford will turn 38 in early June, but he is still one of the craftiest bigs in the game, although relying on him for 30+ minutes a night was not the plan for Boston.

We’ll see how he can hold up, and best wishes to Porzingis in his recovery.
