NBA fans are just weeks away from learning what will happen with Lauri Markkanen and the Utah Jazz.
After weeks of questions and rumors, NBA insider Evan Sidery gave some insight into the path ahead.
He noted that August 6 will be Utah’s deadline to make a choice about Markkanen.
They have a few options: they can trade Markkanen to the Golden State Warriors or another team, negotiate a new deal with him and allow him to be eligible to be traded in February, or do nothing, which would mean Markkanen enters next season with an $18 million expiring contract.
“Markkanen’s future in Utah remains the biggest offseason storyline to monitor,” Sidery said.
Lauri Markkanen is two weeks away from becoming extension-eligible with the Jazz.
August 6th will be Utah’s deadline day for the next domino to fall in three different scenarios:
1. Trade Markkanen to the Warriors or an unknown suitor.
2. Renegotiate-and-extend Markkanen,… pic.twitter.com/1Ts7ioh4CV

It’s really not obvious which way the Jazz will go.
There have been numerous reports about the Warriors wanting the talented star but they might not have the necessary assets to make a deal happen.
Perhaps there is another team working behind the scenes to put a package together.
Of course, reports have also said the Jazz still like Markkanen and might elect to keep him into next season and beyond.
If they don’t get a tantalizing offer, they could choose to hold onto Markkanen.
The 27-year-old forward averaged 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds last season during his 55 games.
He’s a very impressive young star and could do great things for the Warriors if they are willing to negotiate and send a lot up to Utah.
The Jazz always play things close to the vest so no one is sure what they will do.
They have multiple options but will need to make a decision soon.
