The Los Angeles Dodgers traded for starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow a few days ago.
They sent two young, controllable players in pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca, and also received center fielder Manuel Margot alongside their new ace.
The deal depended on the Dodgers’ ability to extend Glasnow, and they did just that.
They will be paying him a little over $136 million to pitch for them for the next five seasons.
It’s a life-changing deal for the talented right-hander, who was entering his last season of arbitration eligibility.
The contract extension gives him financial security for life.
However, he won’t have any say if the Dodgers one day decide to trade him.

Some free agents (and even extension candidates) negotiate no-trade clauses in their deals to gain some certainty or control over their future.
This wasn’t the case, as Glasnow won’t have the chance to do that.
The Dodgers apparently wanted to retain the ability to trade him if they see fit.
Glasnow, over an eight-year career in MLB, has shown two things: one, he is extremely talented, as his 3.53 ERA and 162 strikeouts (over 120 innings) this year proved; and two, he is incredibly injury-prone.
His career-high in innings were the 120 he threw this year, which is not exactly an encouraging sign for a Dodgers rotation that needs sure things.
Still, as long as he gives the team the kind of per-inning efficiency and strikeout ability he has shown to this point, they will be happy.
