The Boston Celtics won’t be back on the court until June 6.
That gives them almost ten days to heal and restore their bodies before the first game of the NBA Finals.
That’s great news for Kristaps Porzingis, who has been out since Game 4 of the first round vs. the Miami Heat with a calf injury.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the two-way big man has made solid progress in his injury recovery, and there’s reportedly some optimism about having him on the court for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Talking on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Charania stated that there were still some hurdles he needed to get past, adding that this was the kind of injury that players definitely didn’t want to rush back from.
Still, the Celtics think there’s a big chance he’s going to be available right off the bat.
Even if that’s not the case, the Celtics could still have him on the court at some point.
Having Porzingis will be a huge boost for a team that will have to go against either Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, and — depending on their health — Dereck Lively II and Maxi Kleber, or Naz Reid, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert.
Both the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves boast a stout and physical frontcourt.
Porzingis can also help them stretch the floor with his three-point shooting, and while the Celtics have more than enough assets to get by without him, they can’t afford another setback in the NBA Finals.
