After selecting former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick in last year’s NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers and their fan base were excited about the team’s potential for the 2023 season.
Unfortunately, just about everything for Young and the Panthers went wrong in 2023, and it ultimately resulted in the team hiring former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their new head coach.
Carolina is hoping to get back on track with Canales now leading the charge, and one way to do that is making sure the team keeps some of its top young players on their roster.
The Panthers did just that on Friday when they reportedly agreed to a four-year contract extension with defensive tackle Derrick Brown, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Twitter.

According to Rapoport, Brown’s new deal with Carolina is worth $96 million and it includes $63 million in guaranteed money.
The extension gives the Panthers one less thing to worry about this offseason as they look to have more success than they did in 2023 (that shouldn’t be too hard, though).
Brown was selected by Carolina with the No. 7 pick back in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he’s clearly done enough in the last four seasons to convince the team to give him a lucrative extension.
In 17 games with the Panthers in 2023, the talented defensive tackle accumulated 103 tackles (seven for a loss), 17 pressures, 15 QB hits, six pass deflections, two sacks, and even an interception.
If Carolina is going to be any better next season, they believe that Brown is going to play an important role in making that happen.
