NBA fans were shocked when James Harden publicly called Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey a “liar.”
But they were also confused.
What did Morey lie about and when did he do it?
The NBA started an investigation into the matter and they are discovering answers.
According to Shams Charania, the league’s probe into Harden’s comment found it was a reference to Morey telling Harden he would trade him “quickly” following the $35.6 million opt-in for the 2023-24 season.
As we all know, the 76ers are now electing to keep Harden.

If Morey really did tell Harden that he was going to trade him after the opt-in, that certainly sounds like a lie.
Therefore, Harden’s outrage would be understandable.
However, how was this supposed promise made?
Was it spoken directly to Harden from Morey himself?
Was it written down?
Or was it just assumed by Harden and his management?
There is still a lot to be discovered about the situation.
But one thing is well known: Harden no longer trusts or respects Morey and he wants to leave the Sixers as soon as possible.
However, another thing is also well known: Morey and his front office aren’t moving quickly to make that happen.
Things have slowed so much that the chances of Harden going to the Los Angeles Clippers as he desires are now very small.
In the weeks ahead, the Harden saga will continue.
He will be forced to attend training camp which may cause even more drama.
Meanwhile, the league will keep looking into the matter and will eventually reveal its findings.
