The Chicago Bulls are going through their worst start to the season in quite a while.
They started the year under the microscope, as it seemed like Billy Donovan was on the hot seat and they could go through a major roster overhaul if things didn’t fare well.
Sitting on a 5-13 record and the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference is far from well, so it was only natural to assume that Donovan could be on his way out.
Nonetheless, Bulls insider K.C. Johnson recently reported that Donovan’s job is safe right now (via NBACentral), adding that he’s well-liked and respected by the team’s ownership and management.
Billy Donovan’s job is ‘safe,’ per @KCJHoop
“[Billy Donovan] is liked and respected by both ownership and management and also has multiple years left on his extension. While it has happened in recent situations like Fred Hoiberg and Jim Boylen, the Reinsdorfs typically don’t… pic.twitter.com/cmD2v98iL1

The report adds that the owners don’t usually fire coaches who are still under contract or pay them not to coach them, adding that Donovan still has several years left on his contract.
Johnson did add that the team could make some tweaks to his coaching staff at some point in the season.
Notably, Donovan and Zach LaVine have had several run-ins over the years, but it seems like the front office is willing to side with the coach on this one.
LaVine is angry, sad, and frustrated with the way their season has fared thus far, and rightfully so, as they simply do not seem to have any sort of answer to their struggles right now.
Should this trend continue, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Bulls looking to move on from him, Nikola Vucevic, DeMar DeRozan, and even Alex Caruso.
