The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already spent plenty of money to keep their star players in town this offseason.
They had to break the bank to make sure that Antoine Winfield Jr, Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Lavonte David agreed to new deals.
Now, it’s Tristan Wirfs’ turn to get paid.
Wirfs skipped OTAs but showed up to training camp as a sign of good faith in negotiations.
According to Rick Stroud of tampabay.com, both parties are currently making progress on a contract that would make him the highest-paid tackle in the league.
Bucs are making PROGRESS on a contract that is expected to make Wirfs the highest-paid tackle in the NFL, exceeding the the $28 million average of Lions tackle Penei Sewell and $26 million average salary of the Vikings’ Christian Darrisaw.

Per the report, he would make more than Penei Sewell with the Detroit Lions ($28 million) and Christian Darrisaw with the Minnesota Vikings ($26 million).
It’s easy to understand why the Bucs would make such an investment in an offensive tackle, as Wirfs has been one of the absolute best tackles in the game for years now.
Thus far, he’s made it to three Pro Bowls, has earned two All-Pro selections, and was an instrumental piece in their Super Bowl win during his rookie season.
He’s currently slated to make $18.6 million next season, which is a significant raise from the $3.7 million he made the previous campaign.
The Buccaneers are looking to make the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season, and they’ll need their star tackle to do so.
And while the Atlanta Falcons now look like a legitimate threat in the NFC South Division, the Bucs should still be considered the team to beat there until proven otherwise.
