After making it to the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the New York Knicks decided to go all-in on their roster.

The Knicks made one of the biggest moves of the summer when they traded a load of draft picks to pry away Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.

However, New York wasn’t done as they eventually re-signed OG Anunony to a lucrative five-year deal.

They also managed to re-sign Jalen Brunson to a team-friendly extension, while also agreeing on an extension with head coach Tom Thibodeau.

With all their core pieces in place, the Knicks have the firepower to compete with any team in the league during the 2024-25 NBA season.

Despite all the talent on the roster, Ian Begley believes New York still has one clear need they have to address via SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“They have to figure something out at the backup five,” Begley said.

With all the money they committed to Anunoby and Brunson, the team was forced to let Isaiah Hartenstein walk in free agency to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mitchell Robinson is expected to take Hartenstein’s spot in the starting five, though there isn’t a lot of big man depth behind him.

As of now, Precious Achiuwa is slated to be the backup five but as Begley noted he is more of a power forward than a traditional center.

New York won’t be able to offer more than a veteran minimum contract to a free agent, though perhaps they have another trade up their sleeve to address the need for another center.
