It’s been weeks since the Los Angeles Lakers parted ways with Darvin Ham, and they still don’t have a coach.

That doesn’t bode well for a team looking to get back to championship contention, especially considering the fact that their best player could become a free agent.

They pushed all their chips to the center of the table to try and get Dan Hurley, but he decided to stay at UConn and pursue a third consecutive NCAA championship.

Now, they’re in scramble mode and trying to find feasible candidates for their vacancy.

With that in mind, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that they would interview former NBA player JJ Redick this weekend, adding that a strong performance should put him on top of the race to be their next coach.

For weeks, there were reports of Redick being the frontrunner to land the job, but he had chosen not to comment on the matter as he worked as a color commentator during the NBA Finals.

Then, the news about their interest in Hurley broke, and it seemed like Redick was no longer in consideration.

Redick has experience as an analyst and is a well-known and respected former player, but he doesn’t have coaching experience at any level, and that’s obviously a big concern.

Also, the fact that he has a great relationship with LeBron James could be both a blessing and a curse, as he’ll have the support of their best player, but the rest of the team might not feel comfortable with that dynamic.
