The San Francisco 49ers are running out of options regarding Brandon Aiyuk.
As great a player as he is, he’s not gauging the kind of league-wide interest he may have thought he’d get, and he doesn’t have much leverage in his contract talks with the Niners, either.
Perhaps the market isn’t as high on him as some analysts — and himself — seem to be.
Even the New England Patriots, who had been keeping tabs on him since February and made multiple attempts to trade for him, have now withdrawn themselves from trade talks.
According to Ari Meirov, the Patriots were willing to give him more than $30 million per season, so this decision may have something to do with Aiyuk not wanting to play for a rebuilding team.
FWIW: It sounds like the #Patriots were willing to offer the most money per year to Brandon Aiyuk of all the teams pursuing him. New England was believed to be offering north of $30M per season.
Seems like Aiyuk wouldn’t want to go there. And on we go… https://t.co/IxtPOqzd1G

Aiyuk can’t have it all.
It seems like he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender while making top dollar, and sometimes, it’s either one or the other.
It’s not that he’s not a great player because he is; he’s one of the best route-runners in today’s game.
However, he has to earn his stripes, and that might require playing through the final season of his contract.
Aiyuk was a bit of a late bloomer; if he had another season like the last one under his belt, everybody would be all over him.
And now, unless the Cleveland Browns — his last known suitor — make a Godfather-like offer or the Niners become desperate to offload him and his attitude, it doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere.
