The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most historic teams in the NBA.
They have a rich history of winning and the prestige that comes with it, making this a desirable organization to be a part of.
Players and coaches alike have flocked to this team over the years when given the opportunity.
However, when he was offered the head coaching gig recently, Dan Hurley made a surprising decision to turn it down.
The details of his turning this offer down were initially unknown, but a recent tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski has provided more clarity into the situation.
Wojnarowski indicated that the Lakers made a valiant effort, but it appears that Hurley wasn’t ready to leave UConn.
After all, UConn has a chance to win their third straight NCAA title next season, an incredible opportunity for his legacy.
As swept away as Hurley became by the Lakers courtship and vision for him, he ultimately couldn’t walk away from a chance to make history and pursue a third straight NCAA title. Even before Lakers talks, Hurley already had a UConn offer to become one of highest paid NCAA coaches…

Walking away from the Lakers couldn’t have been an easy decision, but it is the choice Hurley has made.
It will be interesting to see how the upcoming season goes for both parties.
UConn saw a few of their top players leave to declare for the NBA Draft, which could impact the caliber of their starting lineup.
Hurley will have a few new starters moving forward, which could be met with some growing pains along the way.
As for the Lakers, they were hoping to move forward with a prestigious coach like Hurley, but they’ll now have to find someone else to coach the likes of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
