Darvin Ham was ousted by the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason after two seasons and two disappointing playoff losses to the Denver Nuggets, and he recently joined the Milwaukee Bucks as a top assistant to head coach Doc Rivers.
Ham was an assistant with the Bucks prior to receiving the head coaching job with the Lakers, and one insider has revealed why Ham went back to his old gig.
Insider Gery Woelfel shared some insight he gained from recent discussions he had with various NBA sources and he said that these sources were adamant in saying former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo had major input in the hiring, while some of the sources also contend Ham took the job with the assumption that he will be Doc Rivers’ successor as the next Bucks head coach.

The most interesting part of that tweet is the last part about Ham being the successor to Rivers, which could be sooner rather than later given how last season went.
Maybe Ham smelled blood in the water, and if he has Giannis’ backing, he has staying power long-term.
Ham was made the scapegoat by the Lakers and his firing appeared inevitable especially after LeBron James started a podcast with JJ Redick and Anthony Davis threw the coaching staff under the bus during the postseason.
The Bucks are getting older and their championship window is getting smaller by the day, and when they won the title in 2021, Ham was on that bench.
Maybe they can run it back.
