The Sacramento Kings have come a long way lately.
Even if they couldn’t make the playoffs this season, they’re no longer the bottom-feeding team they’ve been for most of their recent history.
Mike Brown helped them put an end to their league-worst postseason drought last season, and it’s more than evident that he has the players’ trust and respect.
Brown signed a four-year contract when he first arrived in Sac-Town, but the fourth year of that deal was a mutual option.
With that in mind, he’s now looking to get an extension, and he wants to get paid big time, according to a report by Sam Amick of The Athletic.
The report claims that Brown is looking to get market value in his next deal, and asks whether Kings owner Vivek Ranadive will be willing to double down on their relationship.

Sources say Brown wants a market-value extension. But is the Kings owner ready to re-invest in their relationship? https://t.co/RALHi80gov

Brown still has a fully guaranteed year left on his contract before the mutual-option year, so the table is set for an extension.
The Kings have a .573 winning percentage under Brown, going 94-70.
They failed to get past the first round in his first season in charge of the organization, and injuries prevented him from getting back to the postseason in 2024 despite having a winning record all year long.
Should he decide to leave, there would be several teams lining up to make him an offer, and that’s something the Kings simply cannot afford to happen, especially after so many years of struggles and shortcomings.
