The Los Angeles Lakers have been eyeing to make a blockbuster trade sooner rather than later in order to have a shot at salvaging something for the rest of the season.
Keeping that in mind, the Lakers have been linked multiple times with the Atlanta Hawks for a potential Dejounte Murray trade.
Previously, the trade rumor wasn’t getting as much attention as expected, but considering the Lakers continue to struggle well into January 2024, it won’t be a surprise if the front office decides on making this trade.
In fact, as per NBA insider Sam Amick, the Lakers have separated themselves from the rest of the Murray trade pack, as revealed via NBACentral on Twitter.
“It feels like the Lakers have separated themselves from the Dejounte pack,” Amick reported.
Dejounte Murray to the Lakers has ‘real legs,’ per @sam_amick

Amick mentioned that the Lakers are actually interested in trading for Murray to form a Big 3 with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
But is this a step in the right direction for the Purple and Gold?
After all, they already have a scoring-first mentality player in D’Angelo Russell.
Despite being inconsistent at times, Russell has been playing extremely well over the past few games.
Moreover, most believe that the Lakers’ true issue is not missing a player but rather getting a good coach to make full use of the said players.
While the Lakers made it to the 2023 Western Conference Finals under the coaching of Darvin Ham, the chances of repeating the same level of success seem ridiculously low for the organization this season.
There seems to be a disconnect between Ham and the rest of the players on the roster, which is a negative sign for a team aiming to win the NBA Championship.
