After two years with the Los Angeles Lakers, during which he led the team into the NBA playoffs and reached the Western Conference Finals, the storied franchise decided to part ways with head coach Darvin Ham, ending his first stint in the league as the leader on the sideline.
With Ham now looking for work as either a head coach or an assistant, there hasn’t been much traction in terms of teams showing interest in bringing him on, which might be a product of an ugly exit with the Lakers, where he was said to have lost the locker room and superstar Anthony Davis.
Although Ham doesn’t seem to be receiving much interest as he hasn’t been linked to any coaching vacancies in the league, it seems Steve Kerr might want the former Lakers head coach to join his coaching staff for the Golden State Warriors, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic via NBA Central.
“The Warriors had some conversation with former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham in recent weeks, per league sources,” Slater said. “That isn’t expected to materialize. But it is a signal of the Warriors’ desire to add a big-name assistant, and indications are they are in search of either a former head coach or former player to fill the role.”

With the Warriors potentially losing top assistant Kenny Atkinson to a head coaching job in the league, as he could be the favorite to land the gig with the Cleveland Cavaliers to replace J.B. Bickerstaff, Golden State might be looking for his replacement, with Ham possibly fitting the bill.
This would likely be a smart move by Ham to get on one of the best coaching staffs in the league with Kerr leading the way, as he can learn from one of the best in the business and potentially get another head coaching job in the future.
