The New York Giants have struggled to find consistency in the quarterback position since Eli Manning’s departure.

The Giants were viewed as a juggernaut during Manning’s era, but have failed to recapture that magic in subsequent seasons.

Daniel Jones was said to be the predecessor they were waiting for, but to this point, Jones hasn’t quite shown the “wow” factor.

Despite paying Jones a contract worth up to $40 million per year, the Giants were rumored to be in the market for a quarterback in this year’s draft.

As we now know, the team selected talented wide receiver prospect Malik Nabers, but it appears they were close to trading up in the draft.

Mike Garafolo outlined this in a recent segment on the NFL Network, shared by Savage Sports on Twitter.

“They were going to trade up for Drake Maye, was my understanding. But I was running this by a Giants source, who said, ‘Man, we did a good job covering our tracks,’” Garafolo said.

The Giants would’ve traded up to 2 overall to draft Drake Maye, not Jayden Daniels.

The Giants were reportedly interested in Drake Maye, who went No. 3 overall to the New England Patriots.

They could have traded up as high as the No. 2 overall pick with the Washington Commanders to ensure that they got Maye.

Garafolo’s report and speculation have certainly caused fans and other analysts to wonder what Jones’ future looks like with the organization.

They were potentially willing to pay a king’s ransom for a rookie quarterback, which could indicate their feelings about Jones moving forward.
