The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t made any trades in the offseason and general manager Rob Pelinka has remained quiet as the rest of the league shook things up.
This has a lot of Lakers fans worried, with some thinking the upcoming season will be a complete waste.
Speaking on his show, Jovan Buha didn’t get too pessimistic but he did claim that 2024-25 could be a “wasted season” if the Lakers don’t commit to a trade by the deadline in February.
Buha said if February’s trade deadline comes and goes and the Lakers still haven’t made a move he will consider this season a waste.
However, he said if the team was the first or second seed in the West at that time he would change his opinion.
It doesn’t seem likely that the Lakers will be toward the top of their conference but their trade options are limited.
They were attached to several names this summer but each player went to a different location, one by one slipping out of LA’s grasp.
They are now entering the new season with a roster that only has two new additions: rookies Dalton Knecht and Bronny James.
LA also has a new head coach, which is obviously a sizeable change.
But that doesn’t instill much confidence in the worried fanbase.
Are the Lakers content to not do anything in the months ahead?
Will they truly just sit on their hands and stick with the roster they have now, even as the West gets more competitive and LeBron James inches closer to retirement?
Is Pelinka planning something big or is he going to ride it out with the team he has now?
