The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new offensive weapon.

Arthur Smith didn’t find much success as a head coach, but he’s still one of the most respected offensive coordinators in the game.

He’ll have plenty to prove and some interesting weapons to work with in Pittsburgh, and he’ll get to be very creative.

At least, that’s how ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler feels.

Talking on SportsCenter, Fowler revealed that the Steelers could deploy certain packages involving Justin Fields, particularly close to the goal line.

Apparently, they could have Fields sub in for Russell Wilson to either scramble or throw the football out of the shotgun:

“I’ve talked to multiple teams now who expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to get a little weird at the goal line with Justin Fields, maybe have a package or two for him ready to go where he can be a runner or a thrower out of the shotgun,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said during Sunday’s SportsCenter.

This makes sense, and while having a two-quarterback system isn’t always ideal, it wouldn’t be the first time this happened.

Russell Wilson is currently expected to be their starting quarterback, but most reports state that Fields would also get an opportunity to earn his bread on the gridiron.

It wouldn’t even be shocking to see him get the nod to start later in the season.

Wilson used to be one of the best scramblers in the game back in the day, but he’s no longer in his prime, and Fields’ combination of size, speed, and agility make him a huge threat with his legs, particularly in those goal-line situations.

The Steelers should fare much better on offense next season now that Arthur Smith has taken the reins, and while they still have to make a decision regarding their starting quarterback, they could make the most of both of their skills while they figure things out.
