The Golden State Warriors made a complicated business decision last offseason.
Choosing Draymond Green at this point in his career was a bold gamble, not because he hadn’t earned every single penny of his contract but because Jordan Poole was supposed to be a centerpiece of the franchise’s future.
Given that, one could only assume that they would make a similar decision with Klay Thompson.
Thompson has always made it loud and clear that he wants to stay in the Bay area for the remainder of his career, and reports stated that he could even look to take a pay cut to make that happen.
However, now Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN states that the star shooting guard could test unrestricted free agency instead (via NBA Central).
Klay Thompson may hit unrestricted free agency next year due to stalled contract discussions with the Warriors

Apparently, there have been no talks or updates regarding a potential contract extension, and Thompson and the organization are still apart in both years and money.
These kinds of situations happen often, and it’s usually just a matter of time before both parties compromise and meet in the middle.
That’s similar to what happened with Green.
Some analysts thought he’d just walk away as a free agent if he didn’t get the kind of deal he wanted.
The Warriors have always done right by their championship core; they know they owe them everything.
Thompson has never been a selfish guy, and Stephen Curry is by no means going to let the organization disrespect his fellow Splash Brother.
Even so, this will be a story to keep an eye on moving forward.
