The New York Yankees made it a priority to bring in quality depth at the outfield position.
The idea was to avoid a repeat of last year’s scenario, in which they had to give regular at-bats to outfielders that just weren’t qualified to get them.
However, part of the intention of bringing in Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo was to give uber-prospect Jasson Dominguez enough time to recover from his injury at his own pace.
After a furious eight-game run in which he homered four times with the Yankees, Dominguez injured ligaments in his elbow and required Tommy John surgery.
This happened in September, and he has been given a 2024 midseason timetable to return.
The “Martian” appears to be ahead of schedule, though.

That’s right: Dominguez keeps advancing in his recovery almost every week.
While he is highly unlikely to pull a Bryce Harper (surgery in November 2022, return in May 2023), there is a chance we see the Martian and his exciting power-speed combo at some point in June or July.
The 21-year-old is considered, together with Spencer Jones, the future of the Yankees in the outfield.
Last year, Dominguez hit 19 home runs and stole 41 bases between all levels (Double-A, Triple-A, MLB), showing the world a glimpse of his vast potential.
There is still work to be done when it comes to making contact more consistently, which is why he might stop at Triple-A for a while before returning to the majors.
Still, he is expected to make a huge impact whenever it’s time to don the pinstripes again.
