The months of June and July might seem boring to most NFL fans.
This is a time when there are not a lot of major transactions happening, and breaking news seems to come to a screeching halt.
However, July 17 marks an important day on the calendar, at least, for the players that were given the franchise tag.
After July 17, players are not allowed to sign a long-term extension with their current team for that year.
According to Josina Anderson, talks between Tony Pollard and the Dallas Cowboys are “ongoing,” but nothing has happened yet.
Though it may ultimately still not result in a long-term deal being consummated by today’s deadline…
I’m told talks are still ongoing between the #Cowboys and Tony Pollard to still make an attempt, per source.
Always smart to keep talking and to keep trying.

She also noted that, even though talks have resumed, this doesn’t necessarily mean that a deal will happen today.
The Cowboys cut Ezekiel Elliott during the first part of the offseason, leaving Pollard as their lead back.
Many around the league believe that Pollard will be able to thrive in this new role, given the success he’s found when Elliott hasn’t been on the field.
However, Pollard is 26 years old, a difficult age for running backs.
If recent trends are any indication, this is usually a time that teams start to get younger at the position, looking for cheaper contracts.
Running backs tend to succumb to more injuries than the average player, given the nature of their role.
Pollard is the only marquee back on the Cowboys roster.
If they don’t elect to sign him to a long-term deal, he could seek employment elsewhere in 2024, provided the market isn’t completely tanked at that point.
