The Los Angeles Lakers were put to the test on Monday night when they faced off against reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers on the road at Wells Fargo Center.

Unfortunately for Anthony Davis and company, the Lakers fell flat on the road against the 76ers, as Embiid and Tyrese Maxey put on a show against the 17-time NBA champions, which is not a great sign for Los Angeles moving forward.

Even though the Lakers have shown flashes of brilliance this season with a few impressive wins, it hasn’t been enough to prove that this team can win a title this season with the roster as currently constructed.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes the Lakers don’t start games well enough to compete with the best of the best, via NBA on ESPN.

Unfortunately, this was a game where Davis needed to step up in order to give the Lakers the best chance to come out on top, as he should be able to contend with and make it difficult for Embiid to have one of his big performances.

Davis had a few moments of promise during this game but was ultimately outplayed by Embiid, who ended up with a triple-double, scoring 30 points, dishing out 11 assists, and grabbing 11 rebounds.

It also didn’t help that Maxey was on his game on Monday night, as he finished the night with a game-high 31 points to go along with eight assists and three rebounds.

With the Lakers not exactly living up to expectations at this point, it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of months and whether this team might be compelled to make a big move.
