A sad reality of the football world is that fans and players are forced to say goodbye to former players earlier than expected far too often, and that sad reality reared its ugly head again today as former wide receiver and electrifying return man Jacoby Jones reportedly passed away in his sleep last night.

There has already been an outpouring of support for Jones and his family from many fans and teammates, and former teammate J.J. Watt shared his input as well.

Watt took to X and said “Jacoby was one of the most fun-loving teammates and people I’ve ever been around. Always dancing and laughing, with a permanent smile on his face. Gone  far, far too soon.”

The cause of Jones’ death is still unknown and has shocked the football world as one of the league’s most exciting players is gone just three days after his 40th birthday.

Jones helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII by setting the record for the longest play in Super Bowl history with his 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, while also becoming the first player to catch a touchdown pass and score on a return in the same Super Bowl.

That playoff run was also highlighted by Jones’ iconic Mile High Miracle when he caught a 70-yard touchdown from Joe Flacco in the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Denver Broncos to tie the game up with just 31 seconds left and keep the Ravens’ season alive.

All the well wishes go out to Jones and his family, as well as football fans everywhere who had the joy of watching him play.
