Wednesday afternoon’s start could very well have been the final one for Jack Flaherty in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform.
The right-hander went five innings and allowed three runs and did not factor into the decision, but the Cardinals managed to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks by a final score of 11-7.
After the game, Flaherty talked about his time in St. Louis and whether or not Wednesday’s start would be his final one in a Cardinals uniform.
Katie Woo of The Athletic revealed what Flaherty had to say and what he ultimately sought to accomplish while wearing the Cardinals uniform and pitching in St. Louis.
“Did I give everything I had for this team, for this city?”
Jack Flaherty knows his time with the Cardinals is likely coming to an end. But the thing he’s most disappointed about?
“We didn’t win the whole thing. That was the goal.”https://t.co/Y1LJPTYYML

Flaherty said the important question is whether or not he gave everything he had for the Cardinals and the city of St. Louis.
The young right-hander ultimately lamented the fact that if this was his final start in St. Louis, the Cardinals never won a World Series title during his tenure.
Flaherty stated that winning the World Series was the goal from day one.
Unfortunately, Flaherty has yet to pitch in the postseason since 2020.
After the Cardinals were swept by the Washington Nationals in the 2019 NLCS, they went on a dubious streak of being eliminated in the Wild Card round in three consecutive postseasons.
Flaherty’s last playoff start was Game 3 of the 2020 Wild Card series against the San Diego Padres.
The right-hander clearly holds himself to a high standard, but was ultimately disappointed that the ultimate goal was not accomplished.
Flaherty is one of many Cardinals who are likely to be traded this year at the deadline.
