All NFL teams still have a couple of days before trimming down their roster to just 53 players.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, however, didn’t need more time before realizing they had to cut ties with one of their veterans.

According to a report by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team has just released WR Denzel Mims.

The 26-year-old has accrued three years of service time, and he’ll now be a potential waiver-wire pickup for multiple teams.

Mims entered the league as a second-round pick by the New York Jets back in 2020, but he failed to establish himself in their ever-struggling offense.

The Jets eventually traded him to the Detroit Lions, and he was waived with an injury designation just weeks after arriving in his new destination.

The Pittsburgh Steelers later added him to their practice squad, and while they could’ve used some extra hands in their active roster, the team never actually promoted him.

They signed him to a reserve/futures contract before waiving him back in June.

That’s where the Jaguars swooped in and gave him a look.

He failed to impress, logging just one reception for seven yards in the preseason, thus leading to his release.

Mims is still young and he’s a big-play threat with his speed and quick twitch, so perhaps another team will give him another look after the final 53-man rosters are all set on Tuesday.
