The New York Knicks struck gold with Jalen Brunson.
He was one of the top-ten players in the league last season and perhaps even a top-five player.
He became the undisputed No. 1 option in the Big Apple, and Leon Rose is making sure to cater the team to his skills and needs.
That’s why signing him to a contract extension is a no-brainer for James Dolan’s team.
Brunson, however, does have a decision to make about that.
According to a report by Fred Katz (via Legion Hoops), he’s eligible to get a four-year extension worth $157 million, and he could sign it as early as this Friday.
The Knicks can offer a 4-year, $157M extension to Jalen Brunson this Friday, and he is reportedly considering signing it, per @FredKatz.
If he decides to not sign it, he can sign a 5-year, $269M next summer. (via @RealGM) pic.twitter.com/NJA5vPUz7d

He’s reportedly considering signing it, but that might not be in his best financial interest.
Per Real GM, Brunson could get a 5-year deal worth a whopping $269 million next summer.
Needless to say, that seems like a pretty obvious choice on the surface, as we’re talking about an additional season and over $120 million more.
There have been rumors about Brunson considering taking a significant pay cut in order to help the team stay competitive for years to come, and now that Mikal Bridges’ extension also looms large, that would be very helpful for the organization.
It’s also worth noting that the Knicks gave him significantly more money than he would’ve gotten from the Dallas Mavericks or any other team in free agency a couple of years ago, although he’s proven that deal to be a bargain.
Even so, he could look to maximize his value while he still can, and it’s not pocket change we’re talking about.
