Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren of the Detroit Pistons might not be playing in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup.
But they are still helping Team USA.
Both Cunningham and Duren were chosen to be part of the USA Select Team.
That means that they will train with Team USA and if any of the regular starters gets sick or injured, they can be called up to participate in the tournament.
Team USA’s Jalen Brunson was very impressed by what he saw from Cunningham and Duren the other day.
Talking to “Downtown Deuce” on YouTube, Brunson said that Cunningham and Duren “have chemistry” and that “they’re a dangerous duo.”
He then added: “There’s something exciting going on in Detroit.”
Being picked for the USA Select Team is a huge honor for both Pistons players.
It shows that Team USA acknowledges their skills and only considers itself truly ready if it can defeat players like them.
It’s not surprising that the two Detroit players were called upon.
Duren put up 9.1 points and 8.9 rebounds a game during his first season with the Pistons in 2022-23.
As for Cunningham, he only played in 12 games before he was out for the rest of the season with an injury but was averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6 assists during that time.
The fact that he is able to play with Team USA shows that Cunningham is ready to return to his team in the fall.
That is ultimately the best news of all for Detroit fans.
With some new players, this strong duo, and an accomplished coach running things, Brunson might be right when he said that there is something exciting going on in Detroit.
