The Dallas Mavericks made a massive move during the 2022-2023 season.
They traded for Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets, a sign that they were ready to add a star player alongside Luka Doncic.
While their first season together did not yield a playoff appearance, the Mavericks saw enough to sign Irving to a contract extension.
Irving signed a three-year deal that is worth more than $120 million, tying him to Doncic for the next three seasons.
Ahead of the 2023-2024 season, the Mavericks are looking to make some noise in the Western Conference with this duo as their primary focus.
Jamal Crawford recently commented on this pairing, according to Brad Townsend via NBA Central.
“You can make an argument that these two are the most skilled backcourt players to ever play together,” Crawford asserted.

Crawford believes that, at least from a talent standpoint, Doncic and Irving are a lethal pair.
Doncic entered the NBA with high expectations.
He was a standout star with plenty of professional experience and has proven that he was worth the Mavericks draft pick.
Doncic was the face of the franchise until Irving came along and now has to share the spotlight.
Irving has had an up-and-down NBA career.
He has faced his fair share of off-court controversy, some of which has gotten him in hot water with national media.
From an on-court perspective, Irving is seen as one of the best ball handlers in NBA history, but his production has slowed some as he has gotten older.
The talent might be there for Doncic and Irving, but now the Mavericks will have to see if it results in a substantial playoff run.
