The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a strong start to the season, especially their defense.

Star DB Darius Slay didn’t need a lot of time to make his presence felt on the field, picking off Mac Jones and taking the ball all the way back for a pick-six.

That was one of the biggest highlights of the first Sunday of NFL football in 2023, and even Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden took to Twitter to give him his flowers.

Still, the Eagles weren’t as dominant as some thought they would be right out of the gate.

Jalen Hurts wasn’t as explosive as a passer, and they struggled to keep their foot on the gas after going up 16-0 on Bill Belichick’s team.

The offense took a run-heavy approach, but it wasn’t as efficient as it was last season, granted that the Patriots also made some major tweaks on defense.

Bill Belichick’s team also looked much better on offense with Bill O’Brien calling the plays, but it’s not like they could’ve fared any worse than they did last season with Matt Patricia as the De Facto offensive coordinator.

The Eagles are considered the best team in the NFC, and they’re expected to make another trip to the Super Bowl this season.

But they’ll need to be much better when it comes to closing out games, as they left the door wide open for the Patriots to come back and snatch this game right out from them, and better teams won’t waste those chances.
