James Harden’s time with the Philadelphia 76ers has finally come to an end but that doesn’t mean the ten-time All-Star is done talking about his troubled relationship with the team’s president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey.
Speaking with Sam Amick of The Athletic, via NBACentral, Harden claimed that Morey promised him a max contract before the start of the 2023 playoffs.
The Sixers have pushed back on this claim but it’s clear this was the nail in the coffin for Harden and Philadelphia.

When Harden initially requested a trade from the Sixers, he complicated matters by publicly stating that Morey was a “liar” and that he would never work with him again.
It wasn’t clear what Harden was referring to but Harden’s statement started an NBA investigation and also created a firestorm of controversy and intrigue.
There were a lot of questions about Harden, Morey, and what exactly went down between the two.
Harden’s comment to Amick gives a lot more context about what angered Harden and why he believes his former boss is a liar.
During the interview, Harden also revealed that he and Morey haven’t spoken since the relationship broke down.
He claims that too much respect was lost between the two and doubts they will ever be close again.
Harden is saying one thing while Morey and the Sixers have said the opposite so fans will perhaps never know the truth about this behind-the-scenes drama.
But one thing is painfully clear: Harden and Morey’s relationship is completely over and this dramatic chapter in Philadelphia is finished.
