This might sound obvious, but it takes a lot to make it in the NBA.

It’s not enough to be big, strong, or even talented.

Sometimes, it’s not even enough to be a hard worker.

Unfortunately for him, James Wiseman can attest to that.

He was once considered to be one of the best players in his class, and he’s now about to play for his third team.

That’s why, now that it’s more than obvious that he needs to add some things to his game in order to be on the floor, the Memphis product has been putting in a lot of work on his jump shot and three-point shot (via ClutchPoints).

Wiseman could barely play in college because of a suspension, and his development was later stalled by injuries.

The Golden State Warriors couldn’t afford to wait for him, so they moved him to the Detroit Pistons.

There, he showed signs of life, but he was also part of a major logjam in the frontcourt.

Things won’t be that different with the Indiana Pacers, but he should be one of the first guys off the bench for Rick Carlisle’s team.

Adding a three-point shoot to his repertoire could open up plenty of opportunities for him — both literally and figuratively — in their fast-paced, run-and-gun offensive style of play.

He’s still young and could maybe find his stride in the league, but it seems like he was a victim of circumstances.

Now, only time will tell if he’ll join the long list of busts in the game or become a late bloomer.
