The point guard position is at an all-time level in the NBA, with the league full of players who can impact the game as floor generals.
Not everybody is a pure playmaker, of course, but the point guards we see in the Association right now bring more to the table.
Amid Jamal Murray’s impressive run in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, people have started wondering if he’s actually a top-5 point guard in the league.
Former player Jay Williams chimed in on this discussion, placing Murray as No. 5, behind Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Damian Lillard, and Kyrie Irving, respectively.

The former Chicago Bulls player has Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ja Morant as honorable mentions on this list.
Truth be told, Murray has been on a tear during the Denver Nuggets’ championship run, and he’s been a key figure in more than one win.
He has taken his game to the next level in the postseason, becoming the perfect partner for Nikola Jokic.
Ahead of Game 5 of the 2023 NBA Finals, Murray is averaging 26.7 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.5 rebounds.
He made history in the NBA Finals with his assists, dishing out 12 in Game 4 with zero turnovers.
Murray has been incredible in the playoffs, but this alone isn’t enough to rank him above the four players Williamson placed before him.
If the Nuggets win the championship, the conversation could start, but at this very moment, Murray is a top-5 point guard, but not the best in the NBA.
