Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has achieved the richest contract in NBA history, as he agreed to a five-year contract on Tuesday that will pay him a gargantuan $304 million.
It seems like too much money for a player who has made only two All-Star teams and generally isn’t seen as one who can lead a team to a world championship as “the man.”
Brown didn’t hold a traditional press conference to announce his new deal — instead, he announced it the 7uice Bridge Program, a learning and leadership program he founded.
Per source, Jaylen Brown requested that instead of a formal press conference at Auerbach Center, his extension will be announced at his 7uice Bridge Program, a collab with MIT for minority high school students.

While there are questions on whether Jayson Tatum is truly worthy of being the Celtics’ franchise player and is capable of taking them all the way, Brown has been gradually ascending over the last few years.
This past season was his best one yet, as he posted career-highs in scoring (26.6 points), rebounding (6.9 rebounds a game), and shooting accuracy (49.1 percent from the field).
On several occasions when Tatum played poorly in the postseason, Brown has stepped up, particularly in the 2022 NBA Finals, when he was Boston’s best player.
But he isn’t immune to poor performances himself, and he had one this past season in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals when he shot just 8-of-23.
The Celtics had everything lined up in their favor for that game — they had come back from a 3-0 series deficit and were at home with the momentum and emotion on their side — only to get blown out by the Miami Heat.
They will look somewhat different this coming season, as they got rid of Marcus Smart and Grant Williams while adding the ultra-skilled but injury-prone Kristaps Porzingis.
