The Boston Celtics signed Jaylen Brown to the largest contract extension in the history of the NBA.
Brown will make a whopping $304 million over the next five years, and even though a big chunk of that will go to taxes, that’s still a huge payday.
To put it in context, Brown will make more money in this next deal alone than Tom Brady in his entire 20-year career with the New England Patriots ($235 million), according to Yahoo’s Charles Robinson.

Brady won seven Super Bowls and paved his way into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brown, on the other hand, has reached the NBA Finals once and hasn’t exactly delivered in the playoffs thus far.
Of course, it’s not his fault that he was eligible to sign that mega-deal, although one could debate whether he should’ve made an All-NBA team or not.
The Celtics were pretty much forced to offer him that contract extension; otherwise, they ran the risk of losing him for nothing in free agency, especially considering all the noise around him and his alleged desire to leave Boston.
Brown has been the Celtics’ second-best player for years, and he’s a very good two-way player; there’s no doubt about that.
Whether he’s worthy of the largest and most lucrative contract in the history of professional basketball is a whole different story, and the Celtics will have a lot of trouble building their roster around him and Jayson Tatum once they’re both signed to supermax extensions two years from now.
