The Boston Celtics dropped jaws on Tuesday when they announced that they were giving Jaylen Brown a historic five-year, $304 million supermax contract.

That is the richest deal in NBA history, setting a new precedent for other teams and cementing Brown as one of the most important players in the league.

A resurfaced viral tweet from Brown shows that he has come a very long way.

Back in 2014, a young Brown tweeted, “My teacher said she will look me up in the Cobb country jail in 5 years .. Wow.”

This tweet shows that no matter what other people thought of him, the up-and-coming basketball player never deviated from his dreams.

Brown hails from Georgia, where Cobb County is located.

Apparently, one of his teachers in Cobb County didn’t expect the most from him.

But Brown has come a long way since 2014.

After high school in Marietta, he went to college in California and eventually became the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

During his seven years in the league, he has only played for the Boston Celtics and has become a crucial part of their backcourt.

He and Jayson Tatum are seen as the most important players on the team.

2022-23 was a big season for Brown, who averaged 26.6 points and secured his second All-Star selection.

When the offseason came around, everyone expected the Celtics to re-sign Brown.

Still, quite a few were shocked to see the numbers in this new deal.

The changing NBA landscape definitely benefited Brown.

As time goes on, we will see even more contract extensions like this one.

Brown is the first to receive such a tremendous haul but he definitely will not be the last.
