ESPN’s NBA broadcasts will look — and sound — a lot different next season without Jeff Van Gundy on air.

The company laid the former coach off after 16 seasons as a part of their main broadcast team, with some fans speculating that it may have had something to do with his constant criticism of officiating.

Whatever the case, most people believe it’s just a matter of time before he lands another job, and it may happen as soon as this season.

According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated (via Legion Hoops), the lifelong coach is looking to get back on a coaching staff after spending almost two decades in the booth.

Notably, it would be hard to think of someone more knowledgeable of the game than Van Gundy.

He would propel any coaching staff needing a hard-nosed presence, and multiple teams should be lining up already to make him an offer.

Truth be told, Van Gundy would be vastly overqualified to be an assistant coach, even a top-of-the-line one, but he may have to work his way back up in the league.

There aren’t that many coaches as experienced as him in today’s game, and it’s not like he was away from basketball since the last time he was on the sidelines.

NBA referees and Adam Silver might not love the idea of him still having a platform to voice his distaste for how the game is called nowadays, but it might not take him a long time before finding a new job.
