Jerod Mayo Admits Bill Belichick Hasn’t Reached Out To Him

After 24 seasons as the leader on the sideline for the New England Patriots, legendary head coach Bill Belichick found himself without a job after the 2023 NFL season, as Robert Kraft and company decided it was finally time to part ways with the future Hall of Famer.

With the Patriots going nowhere since superstar quarterback Tom Brady left the team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in NFL free agency a few years back, it seemed like Belichick had lost his touch and was simply unable to get this franchise to bounce back and become a force to be reckoned with in the AFC once again.

Not long after the team officially parted ways with Belichick, New England chose to bring in a familiar face to be his successor at head coach, as they made former player Jerod Mayo the new head coach, which was a decision no one really saw coming.

As the Patriots begin a rebuilding process, it does seem wise to a certain extent not to spend big money on a notable name to replace Belichick, so Mayo getting the job does make sense.

However, although Mayo has a history with Belichick, as he played for him for eight seasons in New England, the former head coach never reached out to him, which might be typical of his personality.

Mayo admitted he hasn’t spoken with Belichick on Up & Adams with ESPN’s Kay Adams via Patriots on CLNS Media.

“We haven’t had a lot of communication,” Mayo said.

Although this may be a typical approach from Belichick, who has rubbed many people the wrong way with his actions in this league, a congratulatory text message or phone call would’ve sufficed, but not saying anything is a bit ruthless.

However, Mayo did replace him after 24 years on the job, so he might still be a bit angry about the situation.
