The New England Patriots aren’t expected to compete at the highest level next season by any means.
They have a good defense, but their offense is still a work in progress, and it might take a while before they’re ready.
Nonetheless, HC Jerod Mayo likes where they’re at right now.
Talking to the media, Mayo reassured his commitment to getting the team back to its winning ways (via Tommy Freeze Pops).

He stated that everything they’re doing is about winning football games.
And while he didn’t know whether that was going to happen this year or the next one, he believes there are encouraging signs in Foxboro.
Mayo also seemed to confirm the obvious, which is that Drake Maye isn’t ready to be thrown into the fire just yet, which is why Jacoby Brissett is their best option at the moment.
The Patriots and their fans got used to a certain standard and level of performance.
Two decades under Bill Belichick turned them into the team to beat and the most feared and hated organization in the AFC — arguably in the league.
But sports are always a cycle, and now it’s their turn to be bottom-feeders.
The AFC East Division got significantly more competitive over the past couple of years, and that’s not going to change in the foreseeable future.
Considering that, the Patriots should build for the future and not for the 2024 season, so while things may look bad now, they could be a lot better in a couple of years.
