The New England Patriots are 1-1 in preseason so far and have their final tune-up on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
Head coach Jerod Mayo recently outlined the game plan for Sunday and shared details for his starters’ availability heading into the matchup.
In a recent training camp clip, Mayo spoke with the media and said that Jacoby Brissett will be starting at quarterback on Sunday and that the starters will play more than one series.
Jerod Mayo on Sunday’s preseason finale:
• Brissett starting at QB
• Starters will play more than one series
• All 4 QBs on the roster will see time
• Some “proven players” dealing with “small things” won’t play Sunday

Mayo also added that all four quarterbacks will see action and that some “proven players” who are dealing with “small things” won’t play Sunday before wrapping up his summary by joking, “Fantastic – now you guys can sleep at night.”
Brissett may be starting this game, but he hasn’t officially won the starting QB job to open the regular season yet.
Rookie No. 3 pick Drake Maye has been expected to begin the season on the bench, but he has outperformed Brissett thus far in preseason and looks to be more polished than many expected at this stage of his development.
No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels has officially won the starting quarterback job for Washington, but it’s a fair assumption that he won’t be seeing much action on Sunday if he even plays at all.
Brissett was signed to serve as the bridge quarterback until Maye is ready, but he is just 3-for-10 this preseason with an interception, while Maye is 8-for-14 for 66 yards and a rushing touchdown.
It’s obviously a small sample size, but it’s something to monitor on Sunday.
